Pastor Liz is the current pastor of Lake Wobegon Lutheran Church; she's notable in Lake Wobegon for being being of Italian descent and for having not attended St. Olaf College - a genuine college in Northfield, Minnesota.
During the search for a new Pastor to succeed Pastor Ingqvist, the committee encountered Liz at a restaurant in a different town. She informed them that she had received a calling to become the Pastor for their church. The members of the committee dismissed her statement, but a few weeks later, she had completed hitchhiking and became a waitress at the Chatterbox Café in preparation for transitioning to become the Pastor.
She is unable to read aloud in front of an audience without stuttering, which affects her ability to deliver sermons. To compensate for this, she memorizes the scriptures ahead of time so she can recite them. However, since Lutherans typically get nervous when seeing a Pastor without written material in front of them because it can lead to lengthy sermons of 30 or 45 minutes, she carries two blank pieces of paper with her and pretends to be reading from them.
