The Norwegian Bachelor Farmers are a group of unmarried men who live on the outskirts of town and have little to no social skills or hygiene habits.

There was an episode of Prairie Home Companion around summer 1987 where the drought in Minnesota was so severe that the bachelor farmers were considering the prospects of getting married in order to survive. As luck would have it a period of severe weather led to several downpours that flooded everything and relieved the farmers of matrimonial stress and restored bachelorhood. The women never became wives, much to their dismay and distrust for the farmers around Lake Wobegon.
